It's time for a new floor. But what about the old floor?

In many cases this must be removed before a new wooden floor can be installed. Read more here about which subfloors are suitable for installing wooden floors. If in doubt, we can provide tailor-made advice during a consultation.

In our 26 years of existence, we have gained a lot of experience in removing existing floors and preparing the screed floors for the new wooden floor.

Whether it concerns an existing wooden floor, tiles/tiles, PVC or laminate, we are happy to take all the work and organization off your hands.

REMOVING EXISTING WOODEN FLOOR:

If the new floor cannot be installed over an existing wooden floor, it must be removed. Whether the floor is glued, floating or nailed, the floor can be removed with the right tools.

When removing, we ensure that we return to the screed floor, so that the structure can be cared for again. The screed is checked and repaired if necessary, so that there is a good basis for the new floor.

If there are skirting boards on the walls, we will remove them to remove the wooden floor.

We will cut the floor into pieces with a circular saw, so that these 'parts' are easier to remove. If things were difficult, we saw the floor into even smaller 'parts'.

In the case of a glued floor, this is removed using a crowbar and a hammer.

If the floor is placed on a wooden intermediate floor, it is also sawn through. Depending on the screed and choice of new wooden floor, a new intermediate floor may have to be installed. We can install an oak floor again on this.

REMOVING TILES/PLASING:

If a tile/tiled floor is intact and flat, the wooden floor can often be placed directly over it. But it may also be necessary to remove it, for example, if you end up too high on window frames or other elements that the wooden floor must connect to. The tiles must also be removed if you want to use underfloor heating .

Glued tiles/tiles are easier to remove than tiles/tiles that are fixed in the cement. A glued tile/tile can be removed by first making a start. Then use a flat tool to loosen the tiles. Examples of flat tools are a shovel/spade or wide chisel.

A tile/tile that is set in cement is not easy to remove. This can only be removed with an air hammer, also called a 'Kango'. Removing cement tiles/tiles is labor-intensive and heavy work. When removing these tiles, there is a good chance that the sand-cement screed will be damaged. This will then need to be leveled to provide a good basis for the new wooden floor.

Tip from Uipkes “Get professional help if you have no experience in removing floors. Demolition can damage water/gas or electricity pipes, meaning you are further away from home.

Cork floors are floors that consist of granules left over from the production of corks.

Nowadays there are a number of types of cork floors, such as the cork floor that is fully glued or a cork laminate. A floating cork floor can be removed quite easily. If a cork floor is fully glued, it is more of a challenge to remove it.
